Prayer: ROCK OF AGES Please consider the qualities of a rock. Do not think of a stone, or a small boulder, instead think of a rock that is like a mountain. First, it is firm, it is strong. It cannot be easily moved. It cannot be penetrated with a shovel. It is dependable. It is there day and night, year after year. When you are near the rock, you are safe. You can be protected by the rock. You can be sheltered by the rock. That is why the Bible speaks of God as your Rock. God is strong. He is immovable. He is the epitome of a rock. He is dependable. What a fitting example of the strength of your God. Ascribe greatness to our God. He is the Rock. His work is perfect. Deuteronomy 32:4 For You are my rock and fortress. Psalm 31:3 The LORD lives. Blessed be my Rock! Let God be exalted. The Rock of my salvation! 2 Samuel 22:47 In referring to the rock, the Bible compares the rock to the LORD, to God, and to Christ – the Messiah. It speaks of the rock of your salvation, the rock of your stronghold, and the rock of your strength. Paul reminded the Christians that while Israel was wandering in the desert they had that same refuge and strength. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:4 How often do you need a rock to keep you safe. You need a stronghold and a refuge when the troubles of life seem to attack you. You need that special place in the rock where you can hide from the enemy. You can cry out to God, your rock. The old hymn says: “Rock of ages, cleft for me. Let me hide myself in Thee.” No other rock is as reliable or as strong. No other rock will protect you and keep you safe. When you come to the Rock who is Christ, you will be in the perfect place and have perfect peace. Joyfully, Joyce
