Prayer: GENTLENESS It may be surprising to you that the Bible places importance on the characteristic of gentleness. It is in the list of the fruit of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22) It may not be the strongest part of your personality right now. However, God encourages Christians to be strong in the things that the world may consider weaknesses. How often God shows that His ways are better, they accomplish more and have lasting results. But you, O man of God, flee these things [the love of money] and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. I Timothy 6:11 As you seek the wisdom of God, consider what things He values in your life. Jesus is the example for you to follow. Look at His lifestyle. He took time to welcome the children to sit with Him. He stopped to heal the lepers. He blessed the life of a woman caught in adultery and spoke to her with gentleness. He said to her, “go and sin no more.” (John 8:10, 11) He stopped what He was doing when a woman touched the hem of His garment to be healed. (Matthew 9:22,23) Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29 You might think that gentleness would come naturally – until you start to focus on it. Then you will see how often impatience and irritability and busyness quickly come and take over. Gentleness places others needs first. Gentleness takes time to help someone or teach someone simple truths. Gentleness is giving others time to find the answer themselves. Gentleness is stopping your agenda to let God minister through you. Let your gentleness be known to all men. Philippians 4:5 How will your walk each day be changed because of the gentleness that God gives to you? Joyfully, Joyce
