Prayer: THE SUFFERING SAVIOR Jesus Christ, God in human form, left His heavenly home in all its glory and splendor. He left His Father, to come to earth. He had a purpose that was in the mind of God since before the earth was formed. It was God’s purpose to come to earth to become the perfect sacrifice for your sins and mine. He was despised and rejected by men, Isaiah 53:3 Jesus chose to suffer the worst kind of death – crucifixion. His final words were, “it is finished.” For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit. 1 Peter 3:18 Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins might live for righteousness - by whose stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 You, too, as a follower of Christ, may be called to suffer. It is probably not an option that you would choose to take. I do not expect that it is at the top of your list. However, you may want to consider the positive results. There is also the privilege, as Paul stated, to be a part of suffering of Christ. But may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, perfect, establish, strengthen and settle you. 1 Peter 5:22 It seems that suffering is a means to be made stronger in the faith, more focused on your high calling, and have a greater desire for heaven. You are part of God’s great family. God has promised to give you the strength you need for every trial and task. You are the light that shines in the darkness. You have the privilege of shining in the darkness, even when those in darkness hate you, so that some may be saved. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory which shall be revealed in us. Romans 8:18 Joyfully, Joyce
