Prayer: THIRSTY FOR WATER Have you ever been thirsty? Have you been so dry that just a drop of water was all you could think about? Whether on a long walk, or running, or being in the hot sun for too long, a refreshing drink of clear, cool water is just what is needed. What a wonderful metaphor for the Holy Spirit: He is the living water, John 4:10. He becomes a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4:14. Jesus also said, He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive… John 7:38, 39 The Old Testament Scriptures often speak of ‘rivers of waters’ and ‘streams in the desert,’ all promises from God for a time in the future when all would be able to come and be refreshed. For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground. I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring. Isaiah 44:3 That time is now. When you believe on Jesus and accept Him as Savior, you are given the gift of the Holy Spirit, Acts 2:38. The gift can be even better as you are daily filled with the Spirit, Ephesians 4:18-21. This comes with reading the Bible, praying and joining in fellowship with Christians. You will grow in your dependence upon God, and begin to show the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Galatians 5:22, 23 Certainly these attributes can only come as the Spirit refreshes your thirsty heart. The Spirit also bestows gifts upon believers in order that they may help all to grow and be edified. I Corinthians 12. Are you thirsty, really thirsty for God’s Spirit? There are rivers of Living Water available for you to be refreshed. Let the Fountain of Water spring up in you to eternal life. Blessings, Joyce
