Prayer: SEEK WISDOM FROM ABOVE You may desire wisdom in your life but not know where to find it. There is a wisdom in the world that leads in the wrong direction and can actually destroy you. The Pharisees and the leading spiritual men of Jesusí day professed great wisdom. However they did not listen to the message that God was giving them. They were legalistic, judgmental and critical of Jesus and what He was doing. Their pride and arrogance were their downfall. James identifies characteristics of worldly wisdom: James 3:14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. This wisdom does not descend from above but is earthly, sensual, demonic. Do you see these characteristics in those who profess to be full of great wisdom? This is not what God wants for you. God calls self-serving wisdom foolishness. I Corinthians 1:20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? However there is another type of wisdom, one that is from above. That is the wisdom you need to pursue. Look for these characteristics, and pray that God will guide you to His wisdom. James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Godly wisdom is better than gold, better than strength, better than weapons. As you seek and ask God for wisdom, come to him with humility and confidence. He will give you insight and discernment. James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God Who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. God keeps His promises. Seek the wisdom from above. Expect to receive it. Joyfully, Joyce
